ILOILO – Resorts and tourism establishments in Iloilo will not be closed this summer, according to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.
Provincial Administrator, Attorney Suzette Mamon confirmed the decision of the Governor to allow tourism businesses to operate under the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) as long as they follow the 50 percent venue capacity limit.
Mamon explained that the Governor had considered closing resorts and other tourist establishments, but noticed that owners and operators themselves were already following proper protocols.
She said that the provincial government continues to strictly implement the minimum health standards such as wearing face masks, face shields, social distancing, and hand sanitizing.
According to Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin, many were in support of the governor’s decision.
“With regards sa mga resort thankful man kami sa tourism sector kay si gov. wala man nagpasaka sang order nga ipa-close ang resort, business as usual except nga very particular gid lang kami subong for the carrying capacity which gina-observe man strictly sang resorts naton,” Marin said.
He also explained how owners and operators followed the minimum health standards and deployed safety officers around their resorts./PN
