ILOILO City – Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. chose an Ilonggo to be the new director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
The governor favored Police Colonel Ronaldo Palomo – a native of Passi City, Iloilo – to replace Police Colonel Noel Aliño who currently heads the IPPO in an acting capacity.
Palomo was a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class 1998. He and Aliño were classmates.
He is currently assigned at the National Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit of the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame.
Aside from Palomo and Aliño, the other nominee for IPPO’s full-fledged director was Police Colonel Gervacio Balmaceda, former chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 6 (CIDG-6).
Defensor submitted Palomo’s name to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) yesterday and the latter will also submit it to the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame. The national headquarters will be the one to issue the order for Palomo’s official assumption of office.
“We have to forward the letter to Camp Crame for the issuance of order for the formal turnover of command,” said PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, yesterday.
Aliño, for his part, said he has yet to receive an order to vacate the IPPO.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 94-009 (guidelines on the designation of police provincial directors and other chiefs of police), an incumbent provincial police director or city/municipal chief of police may be removed, transferred or re-assigned without the prior approval of the governor or mayor.
The police regional director shall submit in writing to the provincial government the names of three eligibles, from whom the latter shall choose within 10 days from receipt of such a list the provincial director to be designated./PN
