ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to provincial administrator Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, the governor showed mild symptoms and underwent an RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test on Wednesday morning, Oct. 5.
The result was released in the afternoon of the same day.
Ventilacion said the governor will continue working from home.
This is the first time the governor has caught the disease.
Meanwhile, as of this writing, contact tracing is being done while the Office of the Governor was closed yesterday for disinfection.
In the meantime, all physical transactions with the Office of the Governor will be handled by the Provincial Administrator’s Office.
This past week, Defensor has been hands-on in the celebration of the weeklong 1st Provincial Farmers’ Week, which kicked off on Oct. 3 at the Iloilo provincial capitol.
Prior to this, the governor also led Iloilo province’s hosting of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) World Health Day on Sept. 29./PN
