ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is one of the recipients of the 2nd University of the Philippines (UP) Gawad Oblation in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university.
“The Office of the President of the University of the Philippines is happy to inform you that you have been selected as recipient of the 2nd UP Gawad Oblation,” read part of the letter UP President Danilo L. Concepcion sent to the governor.
The UP Gawad Oblation is given by the Office of the UP President to recognize UP alumni and friends (individuals, organizations and institutions) who have rendered extraordinary service or contribution to UP.
It is the “highest honor UP can bestow upon its alumni and friends.”
Extraordinary service or contribution may come in the form of exceptional teaching, research and public service, creative production, efficient public and university administration, exceptional generosity and voluntarism, and fund raising, among others.
Concepcion thanked Defensor for all the support he has extended to UP during his term as president.
A UP alumnus, Defensor earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy degree from UP-Diliman.
Under his leadership, the province of Iloilo recently received the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The 2nd UP Gawad Oblation awarding ceremonies will be held on Jan. 17, 2023, 4 p.m., at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni in UP-Diliman. (With a report from Balita Halin sa Kapitolyo)/PN
