ROXAS City – Gov. Antonio del Rosario wants all elected government officials in Capiz — including himself — to undergo drug test.

“We have to assure the people that the officials they elected are not hooked on drugs,” del Rosario said in a recent Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting.

The council asked the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Capiz to release a memo on the drug test.

Del Rosario said he prefers a blood test to a urine test. He believes the former is more effective than the latter.

The governor is eager to take the drug test first. “Nobody should be tested first but me,” he told reporters.

All provincial government employees will have to take the test, too, he said.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, provincial police director, said the move would get public support because it would show the local officials’ participation and “sincerity” in the antidrug campaign.

A total of 5,268 drug personalities — 5,076 self-confessed users and 192 suspected pushers — in Capiz surrendered to the police from July 1 to Sept. 12, said Nacion.

Oplan Double Barrel — the police’s intensified antidrug campaign under Director General Ronald Dela Rosa — started on July 1. (PNA)
