BACOLOD City – Due to the threat of coronavirus disease 2019, the Liga ng mga Barangay in this city is pushing to defer the full implementation of the “no segregation, no collection policy.”
The group passed a resolution last week asking Mayor Evelio Leonardia for another extension.
This was the second request of the Liga to extend the city’s trash collection rule that was originally set on March 1 but was later moved to April 1.
Last month, Leonardia warned that there will be no more extension in the implementation of the no segregation no collection policy and may exercise sanctions to those who will not comply.
Liga ng mga Barangay president Councilor Lady Gles Gonzales-Pallen said that although they have requested to move the date of implementation, 11 barangays have already agreed to start with their “no segregation, no collection” policy on March 1.
These pilot barangays are: 17, 18, 22, 31, 37, Alangilan, Bata, Alijis, Estefania, Handumanan, and Taculing.
The “no segregation, no collection” policy is in compliance with Republic Act of 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000./PN
