REALLY, the University of the Philippines (UP) is a democratic space? That is a joke and it’s not even funny.
The more accurate description would be a haven for pompous pseudo communists, pseudo anarchists, “wokes” and trendy social climbers all inflicted with a severe sense of entitlement.
The irony there is that UP is a state-owned institution funded by taxes paid for by the natives whose main purpose is to educate and inculcate nationalism among the deserving best and brightest youth for nation-building. But it seems the so-called eskolar ng bayan have this perverted sense which is to overthrow the duly-elected government for some failed and obsolete ideology.
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” – Thomas Sowell
Not to fret, I have this piece of good news for all the “wokes”, eskolar ng bayan and pseudo communists. Your President Ely Pamatong just came out with an order to ignore the abrogation of the UP-Department of National Defense accord. Take note the letter order was copy furnished to American President Joe Biden.
That is indeed reassuring especially to Leni Robredo who also an alumna of UP and this is her statement on the “recruitment of subversive and terrorists groups” among the student population of UP: the whole time she was a student in UP nobody recruited her, really not even for the cheerdance squad.

One of the hottest topics on social and mainstream media is whether President Duterte will have his COVID-19 vaccination publicly done with full media coverage.
To finally end all speculation on “will he or will he not”, this is the statement coming from Malacañang; President Rodrigo Duterte will have his COVID-19 vaccination in the butt.
And the usual suspects want it done publicly; they must be some kind of perverts with voyeuristic tendencies.

And we segue to the topic at hand. Excerpts from a Jan. 27, 2021commentary on tribune.net.ph/:
UP is a “freedom zone” and a “democratic space for different opinions?” That’s a laugh, and UP officials and students know it. In reality, UP has zero tolerance for anyone who and anything that conflicts with communism and left-leaning views.
Pro-government views and activities, no matter how innocent or harmless, are not welcome in UP and are responded to with hooligan discourtesy, as well as violence and intimidation.
Anyone who speaks in defense of ex-President Ferdinand Marcos and martial law in UP are harassed. Members of the Marcos family who visit UP are threatened with violence by UP’s radical students and teachers.
Let the facts speak for themselves.
Back in August 2018, UP President Danilo Concepcion attended a reunion of the Marcos-era Kabataan Barangay (KB) at the Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman which the group rented for that purpose. Concepcion was a top figure of the KB during its heyday.
Radical UP students and faculty enraged by Concepcion’s presence at the KB event denounced him in mainstream and social media. A faculty assembly even threatened to unseat Concepcion as UP president. Surprisingly, Concepcion apologized.
Can you imagine that? The Reds told the UP president what event he can and cannot attend inside a UP campus!
Radical UP students and ill-mannered gender activists threatened to attack a Christian church minister and his flock at the UP Film Center in Diliman when they found out that the minister (whose church rented the place for their regular Sunday services) preached that homosexuality was contrary to what the Bible teaches. Instead of defending their tenant on the ground of religious freedom, UP authorities stopped renting out the facility to the minister’s church.
In September 2019, radical UP students armed with truncheons stormed Palma Hall in UP Diliman when they learned that Irene Marcos was there to watch a play. Had it not been for the building’s security guards who protected Irene and escorted her to safety, the mob would have beaten her up.
The courts have ruled that freedom of speech is “freedom not only for the thoughts that one likes, but, more importantly, for the thoughts one does not like.” It is obvious that radical UP students and professors are unaware of that judicial pronouncement.
UP is a space for freedom and democracy? As the foregoing incidents clearly indicate, that’s a laugh!
UP is no longer the country’s premier institute for higher learning. It has become a nesting ground for the pseudo communists and the “alugbate”. Close UP down and purge all those unsavory characters. Replace it with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Sorcery./PN
