Dengue cases in Capiz surge to 261 with 3 deaths

CAPIZ – Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Capiz rose to 261 with three deaths, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) as of June 24 showed.

There is a 3.69 percent increase from the 238 cases recorded from January to June last year.

The province registered a 1.15 percent case fatality rate. Two dengue deaths were from Panay, while one was recorded in Mambusao.

The town of Tapaz logged the most number of dengue cases with 78, followed by Roxas City with 47; Panay with 29; Dumalag and Pontevedra with 14 each; Dumarao with 11; Mambusao with nine; Dao, Jamindan, and Pilar with eight cases each; Cuartero, Panitan, and Sigma with seven cases each; Ivisan with six; and President Roxas and Sapian with three each.

The town of Maayon has no dengue case.

The PHO noted a clustering of cases in barangays Tanza Norte, Panay; Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Panay; and Barangay Switch, Tapaz.

Meanwhile, the most affected are aged 10 to 19, which comprised 27.59 percent of the total cases.

The youngest to have caught dengue was a two-month-old infant, while the oldest was a 93-year-old./PN
