‘Dengue cases should be treated with urgency’

ILOILO – District hospitals reactivated their respective “dengue fast lanes” to immediately address the concerns of patients struck with the mosquito-borne illness.

Dengue patients should use these lanes to get fast medical attention, said Provincial Administrator Raul Banias who also serves as chief of the provincial government’s Hospital Management Office that oversees the operation of district hospitals.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has so far recorded 735 dengue cases with four deaths this year from Jan. 1 to July 28 – higher than the cases recorded in the same period last year (465 cases with five deaths).

The deaths were in the municipalities of Janiuay (two cases), Ajuy and Calinog.

“Dengue cases should be treated with urgency,” stressed Banias.

The following towns have the most number of dengue cases:

* Janiuay – 97

* Ajuy – 65

* Dumangas – 48

* Calinog – 46

* Pavia – 36

District hospitals with dengue fast lanes were the following:

* Aleosan District Hospital in Barangay Bancal, Alimodian

* Barotac Viejo District Hospital in Barangay San Lucas, Barotac Viejo

* Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Dalid, Calinog

* Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital on Alfelor Street, Passi City

* Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Poblacion, Ilawod, Lambunao

* Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Barangay Ilaya 1st, Dumangas

* Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay

According to Banias, the provincial government would help poor dengue patients through PhilHealth.

Dengue is a viral disease that has Aegis egypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes as vectors (carriers).
