KALIBO, Aklan – There is a 14-percent increase in the number of dengue cases in Aklan from January to June 3 this year, the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance and Response Unit (APESRU) reported.
From 317 in the same period last year, the number went up to 363.
All 17 municipalities in Aklan were recorded with dengue cases.
Kalibo has the most number of dengue cases with 75.
Altavas followed with 38 cases, Madalag with 35, Batan with 31 cases, Numancia with 24, Banga with 23, Libacao with 21, New Washington with 16, Tangalan and Malay with 14 each, Ibajay with 12, and Malinao and Makato with 11 cases each.
Balete has eight, Lezo has seven, Buruanga has five, and Nabas has three.
People aged 11 to 20 years old recorded the most number of dengue cases with 134, or 37 percent of the total 363 cases.
They were followed by those aged one to 10 years old with 97, 21 to 30 years old with 71, 51 years old and above, 27, 41 to 50 years old, 19, and 31 to 30 years old, 15.
No dengue cases were recorded from children not reaching a year old.
The Provincial Health Office and rural health units in the province are urging the public to practice the 4S strategy to prevent getting dengue.
The 4S stands for searching and destroy breeding sites, self-protection measures, seeking early consultation, and saying no to indiscriminate fogging. (With a report from PIA/PN)
