KALIBO, Aklan – Dengue cases in the province of Aklan are showing an increasing trend.
As of Dec. 2, the province recorded 1,086 cases – 28 percent higher than the 780 cases listed in the same period last year.
Dengue is a viral infection more common in tropical and subtropical climates. The most common symptoms are body aches, rash, high fever, and headache.
According to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6, four dengue-related deaths have also been reported for the period.
The confirmed cases of dengue reported so far in the region this year decreased sharply by 53 percent, with 7,096 cases in 2023 compared to 14,962 in 2022.
The highest number of cases to date in 2023 is in Iloilo province with 1,638 cases, followed by Negros Occidental with 1,234 cases, and Iloilo City with 1,052 laboratory-confirmed dengue infections.
Around 45 percent of dengue cases in Western Visayas affected the age group 1 to 10 years old, the DOH-CHD morbidity week report No. 48 showed./PN
