DENR-6 kicks off Environment Month 2002 celebration

ILOILO City – Spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the celebration of the Environment Month in Western Visayas kicked off last week.

According to Assistant Regional Director for Technical Service Raul Lorilla, this year’s theme, “Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo”, calls for cooperation and unified actions of all stakeholders to address challenges confronting the environment and natural resources.

“Solving environmental and natural resources problems is not only the concern of the DENR but of everybody,” said Lorilla.

There’s a need to heighten the environmental consciousness of the public and strengthen everyone’s conviction to care for Mother Earth, he stressed.

For his part, DENR Region 6 executive director Director Livino Duran said encourages everyone to do their active part.

The month-long celebration opened with a “Tiangge sa DENR Courtyard” on June 1 and will continue up to June 30, 2022.

Former President Corazon Aquiño approved Proclamation No. 237 on April 4, 1988, declaring the month of June every year as Philippine Environment Month and to give time and effort towards the protection, enhancement and development of the country’s environment./PN
