BORACAY – Some individuals introducing themselves as personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are soliciting food, money or free accommodation from resort owners in this famed beach destination.

DENR regional director Jim O Sampulna warned resort owners of these individuals, stressing that the agency has a policy prohibiting these acts.

Over 120 DENR personnel from across the country are in Boracay right now for the massive crackdown on environmental law violators in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to restore the island.

Sampulna said several resort owners alerted them of phone calls from various individuals who introduce themselves as DENR personnel, asking for perks.

“We are already investigating this incident. I call all Boracay stakeholders to be vigilant and report to us if there are any DENR employees who are soliciting money, food or free accommodation,” Sampulna said.

A resort owner was able to record his phone conversation with a “DENR personnel.” The voice record was submitted to the DENR and the police for verification./PN
