ILOILO City – A police officer attempted suicide in his rented room in Barangay San Angel, San Jose, Antique, on Wednesday, April 3.
The 41-year-old officer, who holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and hails from Parañaque City, had previously served in the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO), specifically in the Police Community Relations (PCR) section.
He is currently assigned to the Regional Personnel Holding and Management Unit (RPHAU) of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), where he is undergoing the Office Senior Executive Course (OSEC).
Colonel Lea Rose Peña, the director of APPO, said an investigation is underway to ascertain the reasons behind the officer’s suicide attempt.
“Initial information suggests depression, but we are not certain of the exact problem. He is single and has been performing well at work,” Peña told Panay News.
The San Jose Police Station received a call at 9:30 p.m. from someone claiming that a man was behaving erratically in his room.
Upon the police’s arrival, the bloodied officer came out of his room and subsequently fainted. He suffered from a hematoma and wounds on his body. It was further reported that the officer had attempted to set his head on fire.
He was transported to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose for treatment./PN
