ILOILO City – The barangay captain of Desamparados, Jaro denied her family was into illegal drugs.
Noemi Jablo also expressed willingness to be investigated by the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on police, fire, penology, public safety, order and security, dangerous drugs and rehabilitation.
“Wala man problema kun ipatawag ko. Atubangon ko na kag sabton,” said Jablo.
But she has yet to receive an invitation from the committee chaired by Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon, said Jablo.
The committee started last week its preliminary investigation on the proliferation of illegal drugs in barangays Desamparados, Monica Blumentritt and Bakhaw and the possible liabilities of their barangay officials.
“Legal ang amon pangabuhi. Wala kami ‘ya ga-ilegal,” said Jablo.
It was Councilor Plaridel Nava who called for the investigation. The city council, he said must determine if the three barangay captains “have been remiss in their duties and responsibilities in the fight against illegal drugs.”
Nava pointed out that some family members of the three barangay captains have been either identified as suspected drug personalities, arrested for illegal drugs, or killed in suspected drug-related transactions.
On Oct. 8, the brother-in-law of Jablo was killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen. Carcar Jablo died of multiple gunshot wounds at the Iloilo Mission Hospital.
According to Chief Inspector Ruel Firmo, Jaro police chief, the killing could be business-related, due to personal grudges, or illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, Keith Espinosa is the barangay captain of Monica-Blumentritt, City Proper while Remia Prevendido Gregori is the village chief of Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
Gregori is a sister of suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido while Espinosa is the wife of Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa Jr., the No. 2 suspected drug personality in the City Proper./PN
