Despite drop in VA cases, ‘Drive safely’

ILOILO – Be extra careful while driving.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) is appealing to all motorists, car, bus and jeepney drivers, among others to always observe traffic rules while navigating the road.

This was despite the slight decrease in cases of vehicular accidents here, as noted by the IPPO.

From January to March 5 this year, some 387 accidents were recorded – 32.93 percent lower compared to the 577 cases recorded in the same time last year.

What is the most common cause of vehicular accidents?

It was reckless driving, according to the IPPO.

In 2020, data showed 304 were cases of damage to property; 247 were physical injuries; and 26 resulted in homicide.

This year, damage to property reached 198; physical injuries at 167 cases; and homicide with 22 cases.

Other causes include lack of road signage, road under repair, vehicle malfunction, among others, IPPO said.

The decrease this year was attributed to several government projects such as road widening and driver’s education.

To recall, on March 4 and 5, seven persons died while one was injured in three separate vehicular accidents in the towns of Leon, Dumangas and Sara./PN
