MANILA – Former Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro, who was caught on a video assaulting a Filipina household worker, will be formally charged today, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
Responding from a query by a netizen regarding Mauro’s case, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. tweeted that he already has the copy of the charge sheet against the ex-envoy.
“Yes. Formal charge will be made on Monday,” Locsin said. Then a panel will try her. While this can take a long time it won’t. Then I send the judgment to PMS,” he added, referring to the Presidential Management Staff.
Brazilian news outlet Globo News earlier released a CCTV video footage showing Mauro hitting the head and pinching the ear of her Filipina household helper, who can be seen cowering in fear.
Due to the incident, Mauro was recalled from her post, while the maid, who the DFA said had been with Mauro’s family for a long time, has returned to her hometown in South Cotabato./PN
