When Panay News started publishing on April 7, 1981 to serve the whole of Panay Island, the then governor of Capiz province, Cornelio Villareal Jr., welcomed it warmly, saying it “fill(ed) a long-felt need in our island for a newspaper of this circulation which is both informative and qualifying.”
