DID YOU KNOW? Hiligaynon and more

Panay News is a regional newspaper covering the provinces of Iloilo, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.

While it is in English, it has some columnists writing purely in Hiligaynon – the regional lingua franca – or code-switching to other native languages or dialects in Western Visayas such as Kinaray-a (spoken in Antique, southwestern half of Iloilo, Guimaras, western Capiz, and southwestern Aklan), Aklanon/Akeanon (spoken in Aklan and northwestern Capiz), and Capiznon (spoken in Capiz, northeastern Iloilo, and eastern Aklan).

The early editions of Panay News featured a page with news stories writ ten in Hiligaynon. This would evolve many years later into a daily sister newspaper purely in Hiligaynon, the Hublas nga Kamatuoran, the only one of its kind in the country
