Different playing field for PBA’s ‘Aerial Voyager’

Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star Vergel “the Aerial Voyager” Meneses is still on the journey of being successful on a different field, 14 years after his last professional basketball game.

As the mayor of Bulakan, Bulacan, the former Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers head coach is bringing his winning mentality in the war against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
With the motto “Bagong Bulakan Sama Sama,” Meneses continues to establish his reputation of being a hard worker by providing help to his affected constituents in all 14 barangays of the town.

Tuloy tuloy lang ang pagtulong sa ating mga kababayan, lalo na ngayong panahon ng krisis,” said Meneses, who hails from Barangay Bambang, Bulakan. “In Bulacan, we fight as one and we will win as one (against COVID-19).”
Meneses said all the villages in Bulakan regularly receive relief goods from their local government.
The local government also provides assistance to senior citizens, public utility jeepney drivers, tricycle drivers, farmers, and fishermen.
Some construction workers who were stranded in the town were also given help.

“So far, Bulakan registered lesser COVID-19 cases. Most of them are on the way to full recovery but we cannot let our guard down,” Meneses said. “We will continue our fight against COVID-19 until one day mawala na talaga ang virus.”
