ILOILO City – More than 60 percent of the 4,051 villages in Western Visayas have complied with the transparency policy regarding the national government’s social amelioration program (SAP) beneficiaries, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Region 6 said.
DILG-6 director Ariel Iglesia said Thursday the villages have already posted their respective lists of those eligible to receive the government’s cash assistance due to the enhanced community quarantine brought by coronavirus disease 2019.
“More than 60 percent of the villages have already posted. Usually, the lists are posted in conspicuous places like barangay halls,” said Iglesia.
“They post it after they already finalized the list,” he said.
According to Iglesia, DILG-6 coordinates with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 to monitor the progress of the local government units in the payout.
Qualified SAP beneficiaries in this region are entitled to a P6,000 cash assistance each a month for two months through DSWD.
As of Thursday, DSWD-6 reported that 49 local government units in this region have already reached a hundred percent SAP distribution.
Iglesia said village officials in this region should not fear posting the lists if they were honest in the process of including only the eligible beneficiaries.
“This is one way of checking if they have given the SAP to only those who are qualified and without biases. It is also to show the public they did not do anything wrong,” he said.(With a report from PNA/PN)
