DILG award another feather in Bacolod’s cap

BACOLOD City – The city government won first runner-up in the Excellence in Administrative Governance category of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 6’s Excell Awards this year.

This award is an addition to the string of recognition the city has received recently.

The Excell Awards recognizes the excellent performance of local government units in five areas, namely Administrative Governance, Social Services, Economic Development, Environmental Management, and Local Legislation.

This year’s Excell Awards, dubbed “Pagdayaw 2018,” was held at the Diversion 21 Hotel in Iloilo City.

Just last month, Bacolod was recognized by the Regional Development Council as the Most Competitive City in Western Visayas.

In October, it received from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry a Special Citation in the Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit Awards under the City Level 1 category.

“Together with the many awards we received recently, this DILG award will serve as an inspiration for us to do better,” said Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Leonardia and the following received the DILG award: Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, City Administrator John Orola, City Planning and Development Office head Mary Jean Ramos, Business Permit and Licensing Division head Stela Rose Rayos, and Local Economic and Investment Promotions officer-designate Jonah Javier.

In August, Bacolod was recognized as the No. 8 Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City in the Philippines and the No. 3 Most Improved Highly Urbanized City in the Philippines at the 6th Competitive Summit and Awards of the National Competitiveness Council.

Last year, the city was the champion in the Search for Top Philippine Model City award and won first runner-up this year. (With a report from Bacolod City Public Information Office/PN)
