Dinagyang 2024 Ati Tribes

BY MARY JOY CAVAÑAS

THIS year’s edition of the festival brings in major innovations, including the comeback of school-based tribes competing for the Ati Tribes competition.

Eight high schools will be competing on Dinagyang Festival’s highlight, Jan. 28, following a hiatus due to the pandemic.

“We can consider the highlight for 2024 the comeback of the schools. The last time they took part in our Dinagyang Festival was in 2020, before the pandemic,” said Joyce Clavecillas, executive director of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc.

Themed “Pagdayaw kay Señor Sto. Nino, Padayaw sang mga Ilonggo!”, the festival will be held in four judging areas — Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, Mabini-Delgado Street, and Quezon-Ledesma Street.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has assured that this year’s Dinagyang Festival is bigger than the previous years.

The city government alloted P15-million worth of projects for the school of the winning tribe. This is on top of the P10 million worth of projects Uswag Ilonggo party-list Representative Jojo Ang also committed./PN
