ILOILO City – Ilonggo basketball players will be given the opportunity to show their wares with the relaunching of the 2020 Dinagyang Elite Basketball League on Dec. 15 here.
Tournament commissioner Von Fernandez said five teams have already confirmed their participation: Uniwheels, Guimaras Leopards, T.E.J Builders, E and C Trucking-Asialink Finance Corp., and DPWH 2nd Engineering Unit.
To give the Ilonggo cagers the much-needed exposure, each team will be required to tap homegrown players with two imports who cannot play together on the floor.
“With the rules basically focusing on giving local players playtime, this edition will be more exciting,” Fernandez said. “We will only allow a maximum of two imports and they can play one at a time only.”
The commissioner added: “With this, our local players will have a major role in hitting their team’s objectives. In this league, local players mean players who are residing in Region 6.”
The Iloilo City covernment through the Office of Sports under Executive Assistant Rudiver Jungco throws its support on this league.
“This is part of our plan to revive local commercial basketball leagues. During our Charter Day league in August, we witnessed the huge support from the basketball fans and that keeps us going in our dream to bring back the glorious years of our local basketball,” Jungco said.
Tournament champion will receive P50,000 plus trophy; P30,000 and trophy for the second placer; and P20,000 for the third placer and a trophy.
