ILOILO City – This city’s world-class Dinagyang Festival again dominated the Aliwan Fiesta, the country’s so-called “festival of festivals”.
Dinagyang, represented by this year’s champion Tribu Parianon, bested 12 other festivals during the 2023 Aliwan Fiesta streetdance competition in Metro Manila on Saturday, July 15.
This year’s Aliwan crown is the seventh for Dinagyang.
It was also declared champion in 2004 (Tribu Atub-Atub), 2010 (Tribu Paghidaet), 2011 (Tribu Pan-ay), 2012 (Tribu Pan-ay), 2013 (Tribu Panayanon), and 2017 (Tribu Salognon).
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas congratulated the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI) for its time, effort and resources that led to the success of Dinagyang’s Aliwan participation.
He also thanked Iloilo City’s Rep. Julienne Baronda for the support throughout the Aliwan journey.
“Their help, presence and encouragement meant a lot. Also, (I) commend…the efforts of (IFFI executive director) Joyce Clavesillas and her team…(T)hey worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring our delegation’s needs were met. Your hard work is instrumental in making this triumph possible,” stressed Treñas.
For the city mayor, the victory of Dinagyang is “a testament to the power of unity and collaboration” and “has shown what can be achieved when we stand united in support of our shared goals.”
He also commended Tribu Parianon for bringing honor to all Ilonggos.
“We are very proud of our tribe. They have brought honor and glory to our city. Once again we have shown everyone that we are No. 1. Congratulations to all Ilonggos wherever you are! We do all this for the glory of our Lord,” Treñas said./PN
