MANILA – Calvin Abueva of the Phoenix Fuel Masters flashed a “dirty finger” during their past two matches in the 2018 Governors’ Cup – prompting the PBA Commissioner’s Office to slap him with P10,000 in fines.
The former Gilas Pilipinas mainstay did this during the Fuel Masters’ 123-97 win over NLEX Road Warriors on Oct. 10. That cost him a P4,000 fine, the league said in a statement.
“The Beast” did this again when they lost to San Miguel Beermen 100-117 on Oct. 12. The 30-year-old Abueva was slapped with a P6,000 fine for this but escaped suspension.
Meanwhile Michael Miranda, a reserve forward for the Road Warriors, was slapped with a one-game suspension and a P20,000 fine after getting tagged with a disqualifying foul on Fuel Masters import Eugene Phelps.
It was already Miranda’s second flagrant foul penalty 2 this season; hence, the suspension, Commissioner Willie Marcial said.
As of this writing the league has yet to disclose the punishment on Beermen reinforcement Kevin Murphy, who got into a heated exchange with Abueva during the Beermen-Fuel Masters game.
