ILOILO City – To respond to medical emergencies this Holy Week, the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) has mobilized eight ambulances with medical technicians and nurses.
Five are stationed in transport terminals, churches and seaports while three are on standby at the Freedom Grandstand.
“The city usually experiences a hot Holy Week,” said CDRRMO chief Darwin Papa.
He called on the public to be conscious of their health.
“Take your meals. Bring your medicines and protective gears from heat like umbrellas. Bring water,” said Papa.
He also urged parents to be watchful of their children’s safety, especially during the traditional Good Friday procession.
The following land transport terminals are expected to be filled with Lenten travelers:
* in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district – for public utility vehicles bound for central Iloilo
* in Barangay San Pedro, Molo – for buses bound for southern Iloilo and Antique province
* in Barangay Mohon, Arevalo – for public utility vehicles bound for southern Iloilo
* in Barangay Hibao-an, Mandurriao – for public utility jeepneys bound for Alimodian, Leon and San Miguel towns
* in Barangay Camalig, Jaro – for buses bound for northern Iloilo, Capiz and Aklan provinces
* in Barangay Tagbak, Jaro – for public utility vehicles bound for northern Iloilo, Capiz and Aklan provinces.
The CDRRMO is also monitoring the wharves at the Parola area and Barangay Ortiz (for Guimaras-bound motorboats) and Iloilo Fastcraft and Roro Terminal in Lapuz district (for Bacolod City-bound ships).
This April 13, three ambulances are tasked to roam around the city with focus on places of public convergence such as churches in Molo, Arevalo, Mandurriao, Jaro, La Paz, and City Proper districts.
“On Friday, our main focus is the Ortiz and Parola wharves. We expect an influx of people going to Guimaras,” said Papa.
Guimaras is staging the annual Pagtatal sa Balaan Bukid on April 14. It is a reenactment of the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
“In previous Holy Weeks, we helped people with hypertension and hypoglycemia while queuing to buy motorboat tickets,” said Papa.
On Saturday, one ambulance will be stationed in the wharves, while the rest will be posted in churches.
“On Easter Sunday, we will be focusing in Arevalo where there are beach resorts. Last year, very few people went to Villa Beach but we shouldn’t be confident that nothing will happen this year,” said Papa./PN
