BORACAY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to release government assistance to thousands of residents and workers affected by this famed island resort’s half-year closure.

As of last week, the agency has already disbursed around P27,000,000 in transportation, medical, education, and burial assistances to 11,262 recipients under its Aid for Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

The amount include the P23,503,490 Balik-Probinsiya assistance for 9,737 recipients and the P2,603,500 education aid for 1,255 beneficiaries.

DSWD-Region 6 social worker II Lisa Camacho said they also distributed livelihood assistance worth P19.620 million for 1,330 beneficiaries in Boracay.

Itong P15,000 na maximum assistance for each recipient ay gagamitin sa livelihood nila para madagdagan ang kita nila araw-araw. Ito ay one-time release at may monitoring ang DSWD,” Camacho said.

The agency’s P77-million budget also targets 8,000 cash-for-work beneficiaries with a daily wage of P323.50 for 30 days.

The cash-for-work program started this week with 540 workers from Barangay Manoc-manoc, 1,000 from Barangay Balabag and 228 from Barangay Yapak.

The workers are tasked to collect garbage in the wetlands and beaches of Boracay.

Magtulong-tulong tayo para mapadali ang rehabilitasyon ng Boracay,” Camacho added. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
