‘Dismiss cops caught for indiscriminate firing’

MANILA – Seven policemen who were caught firing their guns during the holiday season should be quickly dismissed from service, Sen. Panfilo Lacson urged the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Lacson said on Wednesday that rogue cops should be sacked outright for showing no regard for life for firing their service firearms despite the danger of hitting their neighbors.

“What if someone got hit and died, or paralyzed? Damn these scumbags! They have no purpose in life, really. Give them the boot ASAP, Chief,” Lacson wrote on Twitter.

The senator added that there is a need for the PNP to sustain its internal cleansing efforts, pointing out that rogue cops “do not deserve to stay a minute longer in the police service.”

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said on New Year’s Day that at least seven police officers were slapped with administrative cases for indiscriminate firing during the holidays.

Albayalde added that the seven were among the 23 “trigger-happy gun holders” who face charges for indiscriminately firing their guns from Dec. 16, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019.

Aside from the seven policemen, also jailed for indiscriminate firing were two government officials, one soldier, 10 civilians, two security guards, and one law enforcement agent.

Lacson also reminded that the policemen should “love” their job due to the unprecedented salary hike for military and uniformed personnel, in compliance with Joint Resolution No. 1.

“There is every reason for right-thinking police officers to love and secure their profession, not to mention to be motivated enough to show a debt of gratitude to their Commander-in-Chief who made an almost impossible legislation to pass,” he said./PN
