ILOILO – Around 2,000 displaced tourism industry workers in this province are set to receive financial assistance this week.
“We are about to release our assistance to displaced employees in our tourism industries. We have fixed the assistance. We have a list from municipalities and displaced employees, and we will give assistance to the displaced employees in the tourism industry. We will work that out within the week, and hopefully next week,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on Thursday last week.
According to the governor, around 1,700 listed resort employees will receive cash aid from the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (TUPAD). Each beneficiary will get P4,000.
Defensor hopes that the number of those eligible to get the aid will increase since the listing per municipality is ongoing.
The governor expressed his gratitude to DOLE for extending help to the displaced employees in the tourism sector.
“We are fortunate that we have that, because we have funds that we can use for the displaced employees of the tourism sector,” Defensor added./PN
