MALAY, Aklan – Two passengers of a distressed motorboat off Boracay Island had been rescued, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.

The 64-year-old Felipe Peralta of Iloilo City and 49-year-old Antonio Aboque of San Jose, Romblon encountered engine trouble while crossing the coast from Carabao Island to Barangay Caticlan in mainland Malay on May 11.

Carabao Island, or popularly known as Hambil among locals, is about 40 minutes away from Boracay Island.

An unknown floating object deformed the boat’s propeller, PCG personnel said.

PCG and Philippine Navy personnel along with the Philippine Coast Auxiliary members found the boat (named Juvelyn 2) floating about 600 meters off Sitio Ilig-Iligan in Barangay Yapak, Boracay Island at around 7:45 p.m. on the same day.

Rescue teams from the Joint Task Force Boracay Operation Center also responded to rescue Peralta and Aboque.

Peralta and Aboque were then brought to the CGSS Boracay Office while their boat was docked at the Cagban jetty port. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
