BACOLOD City – Councilor Caesar Distrito said he will “take a rest from politics.”
The councilor, who is now on his last term, said he won’t run in next year’s midterm elections.
Distrito is allied with Grupo Progreso (GP), a local political group led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
According to Distrito, his mother – Simple Distrito – will take his spot at GP’s slate for the 2019 polls.
Simple is an incumbent barangay kagawad of Singcang-Airport.
Aside from Distrito, councilors Em Ang and Sonya Verdeflor are also serving their last terms.
Ang and Verdeflor have yet to announce their political plans.
Last week, Councilor Ricardo Tan publicly declared that he won’t be run for mayor next year.
Tan earlier said he will join the mayoralty race under the Magbinuligay Kita sa Kauswagan (MKK), another local political group led by former mayor Monico Puentevella.
Distrito said Tan’s withdrawal “disorganized” the rivalry between GP and MKK.
