MANILA – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers and University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses are set for collision course in the 21st University Games women’s volleyball after beating their quarterfinals foes on Friday night.
The Lady Spikers hardly broke a sweat in dominating their round-of-eight foe the University of San Carlos Lady Warriors, 25-12, 25-14, 25-13, at the jam-packed Foundation University Gymnasium in Dumaguete City.
Led by veterans Kim Dy, Ernestine Tiamzon, Mary Joy Baron, Michelle Cobb, and Desiree Cheng, the Lady Spikers displayed its fighting form to topple the listless Lady Warriors.
The Golden Tigresses, on the other hand, recovered from a set down to score a 19-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 victory over fellow UAAP squad Adamson University Lady Falcons, which paraded a rookie-laden lineup.
After an erroneous first set, the Golden Tigresses recovered in the next three frames behind veterans Ennajie Laure, Cherry Rondina and Carla Sandoval to book the semis clash, which will be played on Saturday night.
In men’s volleyball, the DLSU Green Spikers advanced to the semifinals round after beating the National University Bulldogs. The Green Spikers will face the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, which ousted the University of the East Red Warriors./PN
