MANILA ā De La Salle University Lady Spikers avenged its first-round defeat to National University Lady Bulldogs with a 27-25, 25-25, 25-16 sweep in the UAAP Season 80 womenās volleyball at the San Juan Arena.
Kim Kianna Dy led the way with 14 points while Desiree Cheng and Mary Joy Baron added 13 and 11 hits, respectively, for the two-time defending champion to tie with Lady Bulldogs on top (6-2) Saturday night.
Lady Spikers struggled early in the first set and were in fact down 14-21 when it went on a run behind Cheng, Baron and Dy to tie the scores 25-all. Back-to-back errors by Lady Bulldogsā Aiko Urdas and Jaja Santiago gave the set to Lady Spikers.
It was almost the same start for Lady Spikers in the second frame as it had to erase a 17-10 deficit before forcing a deadlock at 24-all. Back-to-back conversions from Cheng allowed Lady Spikers to complete a come-from-behind set win.
Lady Spikers opened the third set with a 12-6 advantage on hits by Cheng and Dy. Lady Bulldogs came to as close as 13-17 but Lady Spikers pulled away for good with conversions from Baron and Alyssa Layug.

In the first game, University of the Philippines Lady Maroons displayed tremendous composure in outlasting Adamson University Lady Falcons 25-18, 14-25, 25-19, 21-25, 16-14 to tie with its victims on fifth place (3-5).
Lady Falcons first reached match point in the fifth set courtesy of Mylene Paat but Lady Maroons countered with hits from Diana Carlos and Arielle EstraƱero to complete the triumph.
Carlos came through with 22 points, including two blocks, Isa Molde had 18 points and 23 digs, while Marian Buitre chipped in 12 points for Lady Maroons./PN
