ILOILO City – The Department of Energy (DOE) will conduct the Iloilo leg of its Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) Regional Summit 2023 from May 24 to 25.
Engr. Jose Rey Maleza, chief of the DOE Visayas Field Office Energy Industry Management Division, said the summit at Diversion 21 Hotel in Mandurriao district is part of the series of information campaigns to promote compliance and regulation in the LPG business.
With the theme “Know your NEW LPG Law, RA 11592 and its IRR”, the summit will focus on Republic Act 11592 or the LPG Industry Regulation Act.
The law aims to protect consumers against malpractices within the industry, such as illegal refilling, under-filling and the sale of counterfeit or non-compliant products.
“We intend to raise awareness among consumers, educate them about health, safety and environmental standards for LPG, and inform stakeholders about licensing requirements for LPG businesses,” said Maleza.
Representatives from DOE’s partner government agencies were invited to attend the first day of the summit while LPG industry players will attend the second day.
DOE officials from Manila and Visayas offices led by Undersecretary Sharon Garin and Director Rino Abad are expected to join the two-day summit. (PIA-6)/PN
