DOH extends MR-OPV immunization until March 7

ILOILO City – The Department of Health (DOH) is extending the measles-rubella oral polio vaccine supplemental immunization activity (MR-OPV-SIA) until March 7 in areas with less than 95 percent coverage.

The DOH in Western Visayas is coordinating with concerned local government units (LGUs) to identify areas needing mopped-up activities to reach and immunize all children aged 0-59 months.

As of Feb. 28, 2021, a total of 84,541 eligible children in the region remained unvaccinated for MR while 116,275 for OPV.

Western Visayas posted 87 percent MR coverage and 84.90 percent OPV coverage.

Iloilo topped the provinces in the region in terms of coverage with 94.48 percent for MR and 90.91 percent for OPV; followed by Negros Occidental with 91.59 percent for MR and 89.25 percent for OPV.

The top 20 LGUs in Region 6 which reached the 95 percent immunization target were the following:

* in Iloilo – Lemery, Dueñas, Concepcion, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Tigbauan, Sara, Mina, Cabatuan, Lambunao, Banate, Passi City and Barotac Nuevo

* in Aklan – Nabas

* in Negros Occidental – Murcia, Talisay City, Sagay City, Candoni, La Castellana, and Cadiz City/PN
