ILOILO City – To ensure a healthy and safe Dinagyang Festival, the Department of Health (DOH) has released a comprehensive health guide for attendees, especially for those visiting the downtown area here to watch the tribal performances.

Dr. Adriano Suba-an, DOH regional director, emphasized the importance of public safety during the Dinagyang celebrations. To achieve this, DOH has outlined several health reminders:

Before the Festivities

* Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women, are advised to stay home.

* Individuals displaying flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, colds, and coughs should also refrain from participating.

* Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear and to bring water, an umbrella, an extra shirt, a towel, and an emergency kit containing alcohol or sanitizer, maintenance medications, and band-aids.

During the Festivities

* Participants should remain vigilant about their surroundings and belongings to prevent any untoward incidents and the transmission of diseases.

* The use of masks and hand sanitizers is encouraged to continue protecting against transmissible diseases.

After the Festivities

* It is recommended to bathe and change into fresh clothes immediately.

* If flu-like symptoms develop, individuals should isolate themselves and consult a physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.

The DOH, in collaboration with city government of Iloilo, continues to stress the importance of adhering to these public health protocols. The Dinagyang 2024 celebration, marking a significant post-pandemic event, is expected to bring grand festive activities.

“As we enjoy the festive drums, let’s remember to prioritize the health and safety of everyone during the celebrations,” said Suba-an.

For any health concerns or emergencies during the Dinagyang festivities, the public can contact the DOH Health Operation Center at 09399881818 or visit the DOH WV CHD Facebook page./PN
