SIPALAY CITY, Negros Occidental – The Department of Health (DOH) has been “silently” investigating the alleged proliferation of counterfeit pharmaceutical products.
“May ginagawa kaming imbestigasyon. Tahimik po iyan, hindi namin ina-announce. Random ho iyan,” said Assistant Secretary Enrique Tayag.
Fake commodities, including medicines, have been reportedly spreading in Negros Occidental.
Worried they would lose to competitors selling counterfeit products at way lower prices, some traders complained to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Tayag urged consumers to report any illegal activity of manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
“Dapat tulung-tulong po tayo diyan. Kung may alam po kayo na mga nagbebenta ng peke o expired, i-report niyo sa amin,” he said.
The DOH official appealed to those behind fake commodities to stop.
“Mali po iyan na iyong mga gamot ay pinepeke. Delikado iyon. Maawa naman kayo,” said Tayag.
Complaining traders said among the fake products spreading in Negros Occidental were soaps, shampoo, toothpastes, cigarettes, noodles, and medicines.
They were sold at prices 50- to 60-percent lower than authentic ones, they said./PN
