ILOILO City – Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads primarily from person to person. Fighting this disease is a joint responsibility, according to Dr. Ma. Julia Villanueva, assistant director of the Department of Health (DOH) 6.
“Each of us has social responsibility to ensure nga gina-protect naton not only ourselves but the others from the transmission of COVID-19,” said Villanueva during yesterday’s press conference.
She stressed the importance of this public health measure amid continued rise of local COVID-19 infections.
“Wala kita kabalo kon kita positive man or the person next to us. It’s two-way lang nga i-protect mo ang self mo and at the same time i-protect mo ang another person,” the health official said.
Dr. Glen Alonsabe, DOH-6 epidemiologist, echoed Villanueva’s call.
He said everyone has to be responsible enough so as not put other’s health in compromise.
“I-follow lang naton ang aton mga protocols, especially the observance of minimum health standards. Kon na-swab ka, pagtinir anay sa balay kag hulaton ang result; indi magsagad ka lagaw,” Alonsabe said.
Data from the DOH-6 showed Western Visayas with the 2, 519 total confirmed cases, 44 percent or 1,099 of which are local cases while 58 percent or 1, 417 are returning overseas Filipino (488), locally stranded individuals (916) and authorizes persons outside residence (15).
Also as of Aug. 13, 52 percent or 1, 320 of the local cases in the region are active, 46.5 percent or 1, 165 recovered and 1.4 percent or 34 died.

* Bacolod City – 298

Meanwhile, Region 6’s case doubling time is 12.99 days.
