BACOLOD City – Anytime soon, personnel from the Department of Health (DOH) national office are arriving to assess the proposed lots where the Bacolod General Hospital (BGH) would be erected.
According to Cong. Greg Gasataya, five lot donors have submitted to the DOH their intent letters.
The proposed lots are in barangays Felisa, Bata, Vista Alegre, and Alijis.
The DOH will determine and approve the location for the BGH, Gasataya said.
Construction is expected to start next year.
Republic Act 11564 establishing the BGH allocated P600 million for it to be included in the 2022 National General Appropriation Act, said Gasataya.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law on June 24 Senate Bill (SB) 1647 establishing the BGH.
Authored by Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, SB 1647, was the counterpart of House Bill (HB) No. 6731, with Gasataya as its proponent.
For far too long, Bacolodnons have been relying on the 400-bed Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital which serves the whole of Negros Occidental.
“We saw how our hospitals struggle throughout the pandemic. They’ve been performing at overcapacity, and our medical frontliners have been severely overworked,” Zubiri said./PN
