ILOILO City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Western Visayas lauded MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) for its effective safety first policy and for achieving the one million safe man-hours milestone.

“The accomplishment of the one million safe man-hours is a milestone and an indication of the concern that the employer has for its workers,” DOLE-6 assistant regional director Atty. Dax Villaruel stressed during the one million safe man-hours milestone ceremony on Aug.12.

As of June 2022, MORE Power achieved 1,008,345 safe man-hours.

“We really give much importance to safe man-hours.  As we give the best service sa aton mga konsumidor, we also make sure that our employees get home safe to their families,” said MORE
Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro.

For Villaruel, this is a testament to the power distributor’s genuine concern for the safety and welfare of its workers.

“This is a priceless achievement. Protecting the lives and limbs of the employees while in the performance of their duties is invaluable,” Villaruel added as he addressed the crowd which included the officers and employees of MORE Power, guests and contractors.

The assistant regional director further commended this southern city’s power distributor for upholding the department’s mandate of protecting the workers’ rights and welfare and in observing the required occupational safety and health standards in their workplace.

“For us, the one million safe man-hours is very important.  It calls for a celebration with all our employees and the employees of our contractors,” said Castro.

Villaruel cited Republic Act No. 11058 or the Occupational and Health Standards Act which promotes a safe and healthy workplace and the protection of the Filipino workers through the formulation and implementation of policies pertaining to occupational safety and health.

“There is no greater joy than seeing each and every worker accomplish their task without lost time injuries and be united with their families at the end of each working day,” he said.

The labor official also strongly encourages MORE Power to continue with the “safety first” policy and make it a way of life.

“The company’s attitude on safety and health is something that we all can be proud of. The milestones you have reached did not happen by chance; but by your commitment, hard work, cooperation and the passion to create a safe working environment,” he emphasized.

Villaruel further remarked that MORE Power’s promotion of safety is a solid contribution to the nation’s economic progress.

“Remember, a healthy work force in a safe working environment is a productive work force,” he added./PN
