ROXAS City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is coordinating with local government units such as the Roxas City Government for its yearly outreach program for child laborers in Capiz.

The activity, set on June 12, is in line with the celebration of World Day Against Child Labor, an International Labor Organization-sanctioned holiday first launched in 2002 aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labor.

Recently, DOLE-Capiz personnel headed by officer-in-charge Amalia Judicpa discussed their planned activity with Mayor Ronnie Dadivas called “Project Angel Tree”. It aims to extend help to child laborers in the city and other towns of Capiz.

Project Angel Tree, a component of DOLE’s Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program, provides an array of social services that range from food, clothing, educational assistance or school supplies, and even work and training opportunities made available by sponsors or benefactors (“angels”) to child laborers and their families.

In previous years, hundreds of child laborers in Capiz benefitted from Project Angel Tree.

Dadivas, on his part, said the city government is also finding ways to lower, if not immediately stop, child labor incidence in the city./PN
