THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has warned the public against illegal recruiters offering jobs in Yukon territory in Canada.

In a press conference, Labor secretary Silvestre Bello III said they have been receiving reports that some scammers are using a legitimate recruitment website in Yukon to entice applicants.

The scammers would then ask a $440-dollar (more than P22,000) amount from the aspirants.

“The report said the scammer uses the name of a website of a legitimate Yukon HR practitioner to dupe unsuspecting Filipinos. Victims were then asked to pay the amount of $440.00 in exchange for non-existent jobs,” the press release stressed.

According to DOLE, the scammers took advantage of the pact of the agency and Yukon in hauling 2,000 Filipino skilled workers every year.

With this, DOLE calls on the public to verify whatever job offers from abroad via the website of Philippine Overseas Employment Administration or directly email info@poea.gov.ph. (with a report from ABS-CBN News/PN)
