ANTIQUE – More than 400 residents were given a livelihood in Patnongon town – one of the towns in this province devastated by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) “Paeng” in October.
Personnel from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 conducted an orientation last Dec. 1 at the municipal covered gym for the livelihood beneficiaries about their work under DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).
Beneficiaries’ work will span for 10 days, and they will receive P450 per day.
Meanwhile, Mayor Johnny Flores S. Bacongallo said the aforementioned aid will help victims of “Paeng” gradually recover.
Bacongallo is also hoping that more residents can avail themselves of the DOLE-TUPAD Program.
“We are hopeful that you can open more slots for DOLE-TUPAD in the near future so that more Patnonganons can benefit from the assistance package,” the mayor said.
TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers for a minimum of 10 days.
Per DOLE’s guidelines, the following types of projects can be supported with such assistance:
* Social community projects, such as repair, maintenance, and/or improvement of common public facilities and infrastructure, such as schools and health centers; debris clearing; de-clogging of canals; debris segregation and materials recovery; stockpiling and clearing
* Economic community projects like repair, maintenance, and/or rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads, bridges, post-harvest facilities, public markets, and common service facilities such as production and display centers, fish ports
* Agro-forestry community projects, such as tree planting, seedling preparation, and reforestation./PN
