KALIBO, Aklan – As many as 1,000 domestic air travellers now fly to Aklan province via the Kalibo International Airport daily.
As air travel started easing up, 14 domestic flights arrive and depart daily in Kalibo, though not close to pre-pandemic levels yet.
Kalibo airport manager Engineer Eusebio Monserate Jr. noted a significant increase in the number of passengers and domestic airline flights in these summer months.
The airport stakeholders are also on recovery mode with the rising passenger numbers, he added.
In the latest figure, 50 percent of domestic travellers in Kalibo International Airport stayed in the popular destination of Boracay Island.
Monserate said the airport now operates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to accommodate more flights amidst the daily air traffic.
The airport is also ready to restart international flights from Korea, Taiwan and mainland China. But for now, returning tourists must follow the health and safety protocols of authorities, for example, mandatory self-quarantine, proof of medical insurance and negative test result at the point of entry.
Monserate has urged airport personnel and passengers to observe the minimum health guidelines in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus./PN
