MANILA ā€“ Former world boxing champion Nonito Donaire returns to the ring on Sept. 24 to face Mexican Ruben Garcia Hernandez for the WBC Silver featherweight title in Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Just in November last year, Donaire ā€“ a four-division world boxing ruler ā€“ suffered a controversial defeat to Jessie Magdaleno in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas bout.

The native of Talibon, Bohol is taking his match against fast-rising Hernandez seriously in hopes of having a shot at regaining the world featherweight championship.
ā€œIā€™m ready to return to the ring and show that I still have what it takes to be a world champion and face the best in this sport,ā€ said Donaire, who signed a contract with Ringstar Sports after Top Rank Promotions released him.

ā€œI know, with Ringstar Sports in my corner, Iā€™ll be back to where I belong soon,ā€ he added. ā€œAfter this fight, Iā€™m coming for all of the featherweight champions to prove Iā€™m the best in the division.ā€

Ringstar Sports chairman and chief executive officer Richard Schaefer said he did not think twice to sign Donaire. He believes the Filipino boxer still has what it takes to be one of the top fighters in the sport.

ā€œHe will be in an all-action matchup against a tough Mexican fighter in Ruben Garcia Hernandez, and I expect them to give the fans an exciting night,ā€ Schaefer said in a statement.

Donaire will parade a 37-4-0 win-loss-draw record, including 24 knockout wins, while Hernandez has a 22-2-1 slate, including nine stoppage victories./PN
