BACOLOD City – City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea has called on the public to refrain from disposing of garbage in the fountain area at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), following a social media post on the presence of garbage in the area.

“I am appealing to the public, especially those visiting BCGC, to avoid throwing trash in the fountain area. If they cannot find a trash bin, they can place their waste on the side where cleaners will collect it,” Gelvolea said.

She plans to coordinate with Office of the Building Administrator Amy Tentia to assign personnel to monitor the fountain area.

Gelvolea added that guards from the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) are also tasked with overseeing the BCGC, including the fountain area. However, she noted that some individuals might be discarding trash when no one is watching.

Previously, the fountain area housed Koi and Tilapia fish, but they were removed by the City Agriculture Office during the summer due to water shortages.

The city is currently awaiting funds from the Department of Tourism (DOT) for the beautification and improvement of the Bacolod Public Plaza and the BCGC fountain area. Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) General Manager Mark Lapid confirmed that the proposed projects, with a budget of P300 million, are “technically approved.”/PN
