BACOLOD City – Do not entertain the possibility of another postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

This was what OIC Secretary Eduardo Año of the Interior department told barangay leaders in a recent gathering in Metro Manila, according to Annabelle Bermudo, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay – Negros Occidental.

Año was one of the speakers at the Liga ng mga Barangay National Convention.

He told the attendees that, without action from Congress, the elections will push through, Bermudo said.

She said the Interior department officer-in-charge told them to keep doing their jobs and refrain from entertaining the possibility of another postponement of the elections.

Meanwhile Año encouraged barangays to push for a federal government, Bermudo said.

While various groups and sectors are openly pushing for the new system, Año wants village officials to be “at the forefront of the campaign,” the provincial Liga leader said.

Other groups not accredited by the Interior department may hold campaigns of their own in the grassroots level, said Bermudo.

Año also reminded barangay officials to sustain measures against illegal drugs and terrorism threats, she said./PN
