Mayors in this province should support and accept their residents confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This was the call of Department of the Interior and Local Government in Antique director Cheryl Tacda after receiving a report that there was a local chief executive (LCE) who was hesitant to accept the return of a constituent positive for the virus, citing the viral illness could spread in their municipality.

“LCEs should not be afraid of letting their residents who are positive for COVID-19 return home because the patients will stay in isolation facilities anyway,” she said on Wednesday.

The local health officials will properly manage the residents who got infected with the viral illness to avoid local transmission, she added.

According to the bulletin of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) as of Aug. 13, Antique has 9 nine active COVID-19 cases.

The latest case is a 47-year-old male resident of this capital town. He is asymptomatic and under home quarantine. (With a report from PNA/PN)
