ILOILO City – The Department of Tourism (DOT) is pushing for Iloilo-China direct flights as part of their plan to heighten tourism with the Chinese.
“We are looking at more Chinese tourist arrivals as the Department of Tourism Region 6 plans to do Western Visayas Tourism Business Mission to at least four out of seven cities in China now connected with Kalibo International Airport,” said DOT regional director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas.
Catalbas stressed that China has been consistently a top foreign market of Western Visayas for the past three years with figures greater than 100,000 annually with 205,613 Chinese tourist arrivals in 2013; 170,172 in 2014; and 184,598 in 2015.
“The number confirms that Western Visayas is indeed a favorite destination in the Philippines not only by Chinese tourists but other nationalities as well,”Catalbas emphasized.
She further disclosed that the Kalibo International airport caters chartered and direct flights from Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chingdu, Beijing, Changsa, and Chong Qing via Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and AirAsia.
Chinese tour agents and media are also now conducting a familiarization tour in Western Visayas to create tour packages that will further attract Chinese tourists to visit the region, an example being the chartered cruise ship that carried more than 2,000 Chinese tourists who explored Boracay in September.
